Propelled to the forefront of today’s scene by her flawlessly executed sleazy house and techno sounds, Nicole Moudaber is now an unstoppable force.
A prolific producer, with two of her recent remixes topping the Beatport Techno Chart for weeks on end. The Moudaber mix of Sian & Mladen Tomec’s ‘Front Pocket’ on Octopus and her version of Carl Cox ‘Chemistry’ on Intec. Which also scooped a prestigious IDMA at Miami’s Winter Music Conference, winning the award for ‘Best Minimal/Techno Track’.
Killer original tracks for other prestigious labels including Drumcode, 8Sided Dice, Kling Klong, Leena Music and Waveform Recordings have all furthered her reputation for phenomenal ass-shaking music built around tight production.
Out in the clubs, her technical ability has turned heads from Rio to Montreal. Working the mix from the off, locked into her distinctive groove, Nicole on stage is a sight to behold.
With key 2012 residencies including a fourth season at Carl Cox’s weekly parties at Space Ibiza, plus regular headline slots at Cielo and Pacha in NYC, her global calendar is in rude health. The logical next step is her own imprint, and work on MOOD Records is nearing completion, so get ready for the next chapter in this incredible story to unfold.
Tonight she makes her Vessel debut, for what is a rare stop in SF for this globetrotting house and techno superstar.

BPM Festival 2013

The BPM Festival returns to Playa del Carmen from January 4 – 13, 2013 for its sixth year. After the smash success of last year’s milestone fifth anniversary, The BPM Festival continues its tradition of bringing the world’s best DJs to one of the most alluring party hotspots on the planet.
Unlike other festivals, The BPM festival is a 10-day celebration of music while offering all the stunning attractions and adventures of the Mayan Riviera. One can enjoy dance beats both day and night at multiple venues at a relaxed pace with ample time to discover the sparkling turquoise Caribbean waters, white sand beaches, mysterious jungles and ancient ruins.
This global gathering of DJs, producers, revelers and party professionals has become a must for any music lover with a discerning taste for quality electronic dance music. BPM 2012’s fifth year anniversary blowout had over 35,000 attendees enjoy more than 200 artists and 50 events over 10 sun-drenched days and cool nights. As global clubbing scribe DJ Mag describes it, “The festival affords plenty of space, time and opportunity to meet people on a level as they recline in the blissful setting of a white sandy beach surrounded by lush, tropical plantations, allowing easier integration into the influx of what’s essentially an A-to-Z of who’s who in house music today.”
With over 100 world-class artists returning this year, BPM 2013 promises to be the best edition yet. Like us on facebook & follow us on twitter for exciting news & line-up announcements!

Biography
Victor Calderone, world-renowned DJ and Club World magazine’s “Best Resident DJ” for his residency at New York’s Pacha, has heard it all. When you’re in the business as long as he is (20 years and counting), you understandably develop niches and certain trademark sounds that you’re known for. Fair enough. But name one DJ that’s survived and thrived for that long resting on the same sound over and
over. Victor Calderone has long earned his bona fides among deejays as a sonic innovator in house, techno and tribal music. His sets draw thousands of people. His mixes listened to all over the world. For Calderone, it boils down to one word that acts as both his brand, mantra and raison d’etre: EVOLVE.

As a 15-year-old in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, Calderone quickly became obsessed with his older brother’s DJ equipment, spending virtually every day on his turntables and every dollar on records. A frequent patron at classic nightspots Funhouse and Paradise Garage, Calderone’s Program Two was signed by Sire Records in 1991 and released one album before an self-imposed extended hiatus from music. In 1996, he returned to the music scene and quickly became one of dance music’s top producers and live deejays, releasing a steady string of original productions and remixes. But now it’s time for the next chapter.

“I feel like I’ve been through a few reincarnations,” he says laughing, from his home studio in Brooklyn. “Some people only know me for my past work with pop artists or productions I did years ago. I'm still proud of that, but I've always tried, both in the studio and deejaying live, to keep moving forward. I've had a lot of people come up to me after they hear me spin now and go, ‘Wow. I did not expect that.’”

What they “didn’t expect” is Calderone’s deft chameleonic ability to weave in, around and between myriad genres while always keeping the crowd energetic and anticipatory for the next record. As Calderone puts it: “I went from playing these remixes I was doing for Sting and Madonna to playing hard tribal to the more minimal and techno stuff. Techno goes deep in my roots, but I still love house and tribal and being versatile is what makes a unique deejay.”

It’s this melding of styles that can be found on Manipulating Waveforms, Calderone’s hour-long podcasts available for free on VictorCalderone.com. Sure, we all know it’s a fool’s errand to try and capture the deejay’s constantly shifting, marathon sets in 60 or so minutes, but each volume does encapsulate the varied sounds Calderone has been spinning for years, moving more like a live set than the traditional compilation album. “I try not to spend too much time on it, but there is an organic feeling to these mixes that has a flow and isn’t so exact and mechanical,” says the deejay. “I try to have those peaks and valleys so it has a little bit of a story to it and more of a club feel.”

After a long string of successful albums and singles, Calderone established his Evolve brand in 2005 as a way to coalesce his numerous residencies around the world, including Montreal, Tel Aviv, Bulgaria, and a monthly residency at New York’s Pacha. With the Evolve brand now taking off globally, clubgoers have quickly begun to equate the word with joy-inducing, risk-taking sets that shatter musical boundaries and the conventions of what a DJ set “should” be.

Digital Dreams Festival Review

A city with a strong clubbing and nightlife presence, Toronto was due for an event like Digital Dreams. Located on the former Ontario Place venue, Digital Dreams was made for those who revel in night life. Armed with some of the top house and techno artist, the team behind Digital Dreams were sure to give Toronto a great party and something to remember.

There are those unwritten rules any seasoned clubber understands.  We come. We fuck shit up. We leave. Despite hearing reviews by other attendees of long lines, long waits, ATM machine problems, horrible bathrooms, no shade, and a less than par VIP area, I experienced none of that. My party of eight came to party. So anxious to party, that we took matters into our own hands.  What wait you ask? All we did was cut to the front of an unsupervised line at the entrance to avoid waiting. Who comes to a party with no money? Shame on you if you think an ATM machine will house enough money for thousands of people during a long weekend. What do you expect bathrooms and portable toilets to smell like with thousands of people using it? Lastly, the VIP area. A VIP area for events like this are flat out stupid. I'll have my rant later on why I'm beginning to hate VIP areas more and more, but why would you want to be contained in an area while you have all this space to move around freely? In a club, it would make more sense (sometimes), but not at a festival. I'm glad all those people who bought VIP tickets felt like shit. Pretentious fucks. Do you really need the VIP treatment to help you party? Come to the party, and party! Who sits? Was it really hot outside? I didn't notice. I thought it was supposed to be hot in the summer. My only complaint would be the sound quality at the Echo Beach stage. I'm not a sound tech or anything, but it was seriously not loud enough. I was told a speaker blew out, and if true, would've been unfortunate. Although, to have such shit sound quality the first day of the event at Echo Beach, and for it to be apparent, it could have been improved for the following day.

Day One - June 30

As I recall, there were four stages. Two of which I never noticed. We ventured mostly at the Echo Beach stage because that was more our preference in music. We caught the end of the Hed Kandi set, along with Lauren Lane, Craig Pettigrew, Guy Gerber, Dj Boris and Steve Lawler. They played their sets, and although I'm not a fan of the short sets, each artist played their signature style and kept the party goers happy. I must say though, if this were a live audition for each dj to win some new fans over, in my opinion, I'm still a fan of each artist, but Guy Gerber was quite boring for my liking. We lingered around the Dreams stage for a second, and although it was larger, with more visuals and the sound quality was better, the artist line up was not our cup of tea.

Day Two - July 1

Between the two days, day two ranked higher on the fun meter and as well as the artist performing that day. Day two seemed to have more people, with better energy levels.  We caught Chus & Ceballos, Nic Fanciulli, Mark Knight, Carlo Lio & Dubfire. They all played great sets. Nic Fanciulli had to be my favorite for the night. Carlo Lio's set seemed destined to destroy the crowd but cut short. That was seriously a complete teaser and it felt like a majority of the crowd hoped he would have played longer. Dubfire started a little slow but ended with a flurry of bomb tracks. The Echo Beach stage ended earlier than the Dreams stage and by default we ended up at the Dreams stage to catch Kaskade. It would be unfair to critique his style since he lost me as a listener after his switch from deep soulful house to airy voice ridden same structured video game gun shooting music. I'll try to keep this positive.  Every kid around me looked happy, or really high. Generation gaps were clearly prevalent between styles of music, so we'll leave it at that. The night ended with fireworks, I presume in celebration of Canada Day.

Overall, with it's first attempt of a EDM music festival, Digital Dreams can only get better.

Nicole Moudaber | The End Up

The following day after Nicole Moudaber dropped a set at The End Up in San Francisco, I couldn't feel my legs. I'm not sure if it's completely normal to think that I beat myself up dancing the night away to what would probably be an intense version of musical chairs to deafening beats. I couldn't stop dancing!

What Nicole Moudaber did that night is what a lot of djs haven't done in a long time. Make me dance for hours on end. With a scene so polluted with festival hype, big visual displays, bottle service, VIP privileges and people consumed with being over night celebrities, the focus doesn't seem to be about the music anymore.  Nicole Moudaber is about the music. The chunky thick beats and layers of syncopated percussion is like icing on a cake. I felt like I was at a never ending buffet of the dirtiest beats that could be served, and I liked it. She dropped an arsenal of heavy tracks from artist like Pirupa, &Me, Victor Calderone and also tracks she produced herself.

I was in a battle zone. All I heard was bomb after bomb and it wouldn't let up. She has been labeled the "Techno Queen" and rightfully so. Whether it was techno, house, tech-house, Nicole took us on a journey of the dirties beats. This is how clubbing should be. This is what people should be experiencing.
